Art obtained his PhD in crystallography at UCLA, where he focussed on solving structures of sHSPs and amyloidogenic proteins. He has maintained an interest in the sHSPs since moving to Oxford, and in particular understanding the role of the core domain within the alpha-crystallins. Art has since moved to Texas A&M to start his own research group.
