Yusuf was a biology and computer science undergraduate from Lake Forest College, Illinois, USA. As a member of the Grace Elizabeth Groner Foundation, Yusuf received a grant to pursue research with is as part of a service and learning program aimed to help students explore career paths. Working with Weston, Yusuf was using ion-mobility mass spectrometry to study glycans with the ultimate aim of identifying HIV glycans influential in neutralizing antibody recognition and affinity. After being a research assistant at the Rosalind Franklin University in North Chicago, Illinois until 2017 he is now doing an MSc in Bionics at the Rhine-Waal University in Germany.
